I think that the most important thing that I learned in this class is about the different types of writing that is out there being used everyday. Web writing needs to be very simple and concise, and you need to get the point across with little detail. I learned about the different techniques that went into creating a web site to make it very professional and successful. However I think that my favorite and the best thing that I learned was actually how to create a web site.
I mean I always new how but not like this. There are so many things that you have to think about when actually creating it. I am really happy that I took this class because I want to do advertising/marketing when I get older and I am sure that this (websites and presentations) will have big part of my job. I hope that it does because I really enjoy making sites and I will continue to learn more about them. Thank you so much Dr. Karper, I had a lot of fun during this class and learned a lot! Thank you!

I think that one of the most important things on our site is the food link. I think this because a lot of kids/people that come to this school are unfamiliar with the location of places to eat. This is because they are probably from out of town and won’t even know where to look to find a restaurant or place to eat. It is also nice because we indicated the price range and take-out, sit-in, and fine-dinning, a variety of types of food things. I know that I didn’t even know where to look when I wanted to get food from off campus. A lot of students get sick of the food on campus so this will be a very helpful site to help students get familiar with the area and accessibility to food.

I Think that the policies for dummies is another really good link on our site. A lot of students just don’t want to take the time to read through the policies and procedures of Niagara University, therefore they really don’t know the real rules and what to expect if they ever got into trouble. Since we (students) created this site, we wrote the policies in none technical terms so that students hopefully will understand. We also tried to add some humor in it.

I think that the user tests that we performed with other people really helped us create an exceptional site. Because coming from the creators, it was hard to realize what was wrong and hard to navigate through. As a result I think that we have a very professional site.

No, I personally think that the medias are all different. They all have their own techniques for accommodating to their readers of that media. It makes sense that the news style will stay the same because people (humans) are very resistant to change. The style of newspaper writing has been the same for years, and that is what people are used to. If they go changing the style, it is possible that they might loose readers interests in reading that media. I think this because people just don't have time (unfortunately) to adjust to new things, even if it is something so simple, even to benefit them. I think its just today's society. The internet has come along way with media writing, to make things easier for readers and to accommodate to their reading habits. There are different techniques for all different medias, and I personally think that they will remain the same. If they change they will change ever so slightly so that they will not mess with the readers. Also if you start changing things around on people they might consider that "bad writing". Not because it really is bad writing but just because they aren't used to it, and are resilient to change. I personally like reading things online, rather than print. I think that I am more amused by online things. Ex: the colors, pictures, and everything.

I think that it is important to have good navigation throughout your website. If there isn't good navigation then you may not keep the readers interest and therefore they may not look at your site and leave to go to another one.

Some good strategies for developing an effective navigation our website is that we will have to make everything easy to understand...Not complicated. If things get to complicated then people tend to loose interest. Things have to also be short but yet still concise. Lengthy things are of not interested to people when trying to find out general information like they will on our website. Each page will have to look the same, this will create easy navigation and people will not have to search around the site to find where they want to go. We are going to use vertical alignment to set up for our navigation bar.

It is important to have good navigation and understand what it takes to have good navigation for your website. This is because if there is not good navigation then you may loose the readers interest and therefore they may leave your website.

Perspective Students
Current Students
Parents of perspective and current students
Faculty of NU and of housing
RA's and staff for buildings

Current Students/Staff:
They will want to look at information that is going on around campus impartiality things that have to do with their building. There will be information about food services (such as local restaurants with location and phone numbers), information about campus activities that they can get involved in, as well as general information.

Perspective Students:
This website will provide them information about what is at NU and things that are available to students that attend NU. Things such as campus activities, building activities and organizations/clubs, general information and things that you are able to get involved in.

Parents:
This will be an informative site to make the parents aware of what is going on at their children school. It will show that the school is credible and they should feel safe in sending their students to Niagara University.

I think that the three most important things that I consider to make a website "good" are the web content, accessablitity, interest.

The content of websites has to be accurate as well as creadable information. If the information is not accurate then your reader looses trust in your content and might not continue to read about infromation on your website. The english should be proper on the website also. The design has to be good, easy to keep the reader focused and able to keep reader. This can be done visually and by the content in the website. The website has to be easy to access and navegate. It needs to be able to be understood by the reader. The reader has to know that when you click on a link it will bring you there, and work.

Capturing and keeping someone's attention on the internet is very important. If you fail to keep the interest of someone who is reading/looking at your website, then their attention is lost and they might not pay 100 percent attention to your website or they might ignore your site and go to another. They would not give good recommendations to other people about that site. Not keeping the attention of readers who are looking at your site means that the advertising from that company, business or individual person did not do a very good job. As a result the marketing for the website will not be as good.

I will draw attention to my online portfolio because my portfolio will be interesting. It may not draw interest to everyone, but I will make it very colorful and unique in my own way to bring out my creativeness.

My major is Communications. When I leave NU I want to be social with society and people, I do not want to sit at a desk everyday. I want to look into advertising and marketing. To work in my field I will need to have good skills with the internet, writting, communications and be very knowledgeable in my area of study. I will be interning over the summer at a communications firm in Rochester so that will give me good credibility. My social skills with people help contribute to my field as well as my education. I have not written a resume. I am most proud of the accomplishments that I have gotten. I like the colors blue, orange, and dark green. Sports are some images, paintings and animals represent me.

The two websites that I am comparing are www.weatherchannel.com and www.cnn.com. My major is communications, so I chose websites that you can receive informative information that you want to know about.

These websites are different than the other ones that I compared too. These websites are more professional (minus the government website that I used last time) and they are using more professional information.

These websites are similar in that they all provide information however they are for different genre's.

I think that for my field, as well as many others it is important to know what you are talking about and have credible information. You also need to have it presentable to your topic and interesting to the audience.

These online websites are all informative. They all contain information that someone will want to read about. They are different genres of information, however someone will be interested in the sites.

The debate page that I looked at has a mission statement that is very clear and not hard to find on the first page of the website. The dolphin website does not have a mission statement. The victorias secret is a company has a privacy/security statement. This you have to look for under the tab called privacy/security. They also have a contact number and help page.

All these pages are different. The dolphin website will draw a younger crowd because they can relate to them better. It is very bright and colorful with lots of pictures. The text is not complicated either, it is very simple and easy to understand. Therefore it is a good website for the younger generations, because they can grasp it better. The government debate website is for the older generation that is into politics, or would like to learn more about politics. The writing is very intellectual which might create difficulty with understanding it for younger kids. You also might need to have a little background about what the basic of politics like what it is. The victorias secret website is directed towards women. It uses good marketing techniques because they advertise the sale and new things on the first web page. They advertise things such as if you spend more than $100 you will get free shipping. That causes interest for people to continue to shop.

The audience for the dolphin website is definitely for the younger generation, who wants to learn more about dolphins and has an interest in dolphins. With the websites aim to focus on younger generations, it just changes the layout of the website and the choice of wording for the website. They need it to be easier to understand. The debate website is aimed for adults who want to know or learn about politics, and keep up to date about what is happening with the politics. The victorias secret website is aimed at women who have a credit card basically.

The dolphin and victorias secret website are similar in which they are both colorful and draw attention to the eye. The debate website is very simple and somewhat boring.

I think that there is a wide variety of genre's for web portfolios. They depend on what point the author that is making them wants to get across and to whom they want to get across too.

I searched different websites trying to give me a range of different kinds of web sites. The dolphin website is a personal website about dolphins. The author of this website is trying to connect with dolphins and try to understand them better. They do this by posting several different poems about what they think the dolphins are thinking and represent. They also give a variety of informative information about dolphines. This person is very creative because they set the website up to be very bright, and there are pictures all over the website. The pictures are not in order though, they flow throughout and down the pages.

The next website that I searched was a professional website about the presidential debate. This website is very obvious that it is proffessional. The first clue is because it has a website that ends in org. This site has its mission raight on the first page of the website. It has many proffesisional looking links that it reffurs you too. There is a picture of the two campain men running. The website is very plain, not a variety of colors or anything.

The last website that I looked at was a proffisional shopping website. This website markets to womens clothing. This is a very proffesional website however it is a very colorful website. This is to draw attention too the clothing, wanting to create more sales.

I researched marketing and advertising on the Internet. I learned that consumers are paying more attention and buying more things on the Internet opposed to going shopping. They are not interested in things that are inconvenient to them, they want to do things fast, easy and convenient. Therefore buying and selling products on the Internet has exploded within the past years. Selling on the Internet is a prime selling point for companies, therefore businesses are focusing and spending most of their marketing money on marketing on the Internet. One of the articles explains techniques that you should use to help make the marketing and advertising for your company successful. One thing that I thought was interesting was that the author of this article said, "You can think of strategy as the sight on a rifle. If the sight is even slightly out of adjustment, you'll end up wide of the target or you might miss the target altogether." That goes to show that you need to know what you are talking about because if you don't then you might not succeed with marketing on the web.

I think that technology is increasing and getting better. Because of this, the technology changes are making writing easier. You can set up your program to finish typing your word for you, you can even program your computer so you can talk into it and it will write what you say. I think that the style of writing is also changing. Media has to stay in tuned to the society today. Society frequently changes and therefore writing, along with several other things has to stay up to date with the changes of today. People want to listen to what is "in" and read about things that they are interested in such as celebrates. So changes have to be made in continue to keep the interest that the current society wants.

I don't think that when kids use shortcuts for words is necessarily a bad thing. I agree with Dr. Samantha Blackmon when she says that Who cares if a student, to save time, types u for you? I want to see them writing more and if that means breaking a few rules, thats OK. When kids write on the Internet to friends and such, the first thing on their mind is not grammar, spelling and functioning, its to say what you have to and move on to the next person. However the continues misspelled words, grammar and functioning will more than likely be done with they need to write a paper. So it may take kids a little longer because they need to concentrate on the fundamentals but as long as they proofread and make sure that everything is proper and they are willing to take that extra time to correct things, then there is no problem beating around the bush when talking to your friends.

My experiences for writing for the web have been limited. I have never written specifically on the internet, but I have always had an interest in the way the writing is done on the web. There are techniques I'm sure you have to use when writing. You can tell when reading things on the Internet the people that have experience writing for the web because they know how to hold your interest and get the point across quickly. Other people that don't have experience don't really know about what is necessary to keep a persons interest when reading. They just write. I want to get into advertising and marketing for my career and there are so many things that are done on the computer and Internet, I am sure that writing for the web will help me with my career.
